London Array Blade Upgrade Campaign
Fabrication and mobilisation of Blade Rack Grillages and Mezzanine deck structures
MPI Offshore were awarded the contract to design a system that could be deployed to one of their WTIV's, that would allow the removal and modification of Wind Turbine Blades out in the field.
The system required the use of storage / transportation racks that could house the blades during removal / replacement and also a fixed habitat that could be used to carry out the modifications required to the blades in a controlled evnironement offshore, this in turn required the construction of an elevated mezzanine deck that would cantilever over either side of the vessel to accomodate the habitat at one side of the vessel and the manipulators and tag line towers required to assist with control of the blades during movement from the storage racks to the repair / modification area at the opposite side.
We were awarded the contract to fabricate and mobilise all of the elements described above, along with the manufacture of 3 No removeable steel habitats.
The various scopes were completed during a 12 week period starting in April 2018, the works which included mutli-discipline interfaces during the mobilisation were completed in time to allow the vessel to commence works as planned in early July 2018.
