Cable Gantry
Our Client was awarded a significant contract for the installation and trenching of 80 infield cables on the BARD Offshore 1 Wind Farm Project, in the western North Sea.
The workscope, for client Norddeutsche Seekabelwerke (NSW) and ultimate client BARD Engineering, will include the lay, trenching and pull in of the infield cables into the foundations to connect 5MW turbines together in strings and finally to an AC offshore transformer.
The contract, which will utilise vessels, equipped with trenching and cable installation equipment , is due to commence in May 2010. Once operational, the wind farm will produce 400MW of total power and will be the first large-scale offshore wind farm with this size of turbines and to reach such a water depth of 40m.
MCC were required to construct at very short notice a cable gantry and coiling arm assembly which would be utilized during the cable spooling and laying operations during this project.
The project was completed on time working around the clock, and due to the effectiveness of the system the spooling operations were able to be completed well ahead of schedule.
