Limpet Dam
Scope of supply from MC Construction, to provide detailed drawings, all materials and labour to fabricate off site the Limpet Dam in transportable sections, deliver and assemble at the port of Liverpool. Due to the project being subject to a confidentiality clause we are able to give little more than the basic outline of the scope of works, but we feel that the permissible photographs will suffice to demonstrate the capability of MCC. Scope of works: MCC were awarded the contract to build a “Limpet Dam.” From the design drawings, detailed working drawings were produced and the Limpet Dam was constructed in sectional modules transported to site and assembled.
The photographs will show the fully assembled Limpet Dam, built horizontally, lifted to the vertical then shipped to its location using the floating crane the Mersey Mammoth, and then lowered into position.
The water on the inside of the dam was then pumped out of the dam and the water pressure on the outside of the dam pushed the dam hard up to the dock wall and sealed to provide the working habitat some 17metres below the water line.
The Limpet Dam is unique to the particular application, but due to the innovative design it can be made to operate on the opposite hand of the dock with the slightest of modification.
