Rampion Phase II Pacific Orca
Pacific Orca / Rampion OSWF Foundation fabrication and Mobilisation
Fabrication of and vessel mobilisation of Foundation Grillages, Pile Gripper and Hydraulically operated Monopile Upending Frame
MCC were awarded the contract to fabricate and install in excess of 800t of Foundation Sea Fastening for the Pacific Orca, this included the fabrication and Installation of the Houlder Pile Gripper Grillage structure and the hydraulically activated Monopile Upending Frame.
Due to the varying diameters of the foundations the design had to flexible to accommodate all sizes.
Tapered and adjustable saddles were incorporated into the structures to achieve the required outcomes.
The Structures were loaded from MCC fabrication halls directly onto the MPI Resolution vessel, which had been chartered specifically to transit the components down the River Tees to Tees Dock were the Pacific Orca was berthed.
The structures were then loaded directly to Pacific Orca allowing for a swift and efficient installation campaign.
The spread also contained a significant steel grillage for both the Menck Hammer, Seacore Drill spread and 4 No TP's.
The mobilisation was delivered on time even though 3 days were lost at the start due to weather issues, a fantastic achievement by all concerned, the excellent planning and collaboration from all parties was a major factor in achieving this significant goal.
The Pacific Orca is expected to join the MPI Discovery to commence foundation installation on the 1st of July 2016, when the Black Bream Spawing Season is officially over.
